The Melbourne Cup-winning trainer with Brew in 2000, Moroney is banking on Strike Force claiming his fourth win in the $90,000 race over 1590m.
He’s the reigning cup-holder after Loyalty Man joined Zabisco (2012) and Syndrome (2009).
“He’s ready to do something now, he’s had a couple of runs under his belt,” Moroney said.
“He’s nice and fit, we’re heading towards the Magic Millions with him eventually, this is the next stepping stone.”
Wodonga trainer Peter Maher has four wins and he’s unlikely to add to that with nomination Cha Cha King set to run over 1300m.
The Cox family has dominated the Cup through Brian (11) and his later father Ollie (two).
“It just suits my horses, it’s the ideal distance on the way to something else and we’ve always had a little bit of luck in it,” Moroney said.
Acceptances close on Wednesday at 9.15am.
