The House Creek crossing for pedestrians and cyclists has been deemed a safety risk by Wodonga Council with slippery and worn decking.
Yackandandah firm Nelmac has won a tender to construct the new bridge which will have a lower profile than the existing span.
It is expected to be completed by next March.
Wodonga councillor Tim Quilty wants the latest bridge to be longer lasting.
“The existing bridge that is being replaced is apparently less than 25 years old, which is a little bit concerning,” he said when the tender was awarded at this week’s council meeting.
“Let’s hope this one lasts a bit longer.”
Mayor Anna Speedie said the project would be under the set budget of $250,000 and suggested the excess could be spent on paths.
