The Wanderers dismissed Rovers United Bruck for just 122, but was then skittled for 101 from only 46 overs.
“It was pretty disappointing to be six down overnight when we had done a lot of hard work in bowling them out for 122,” Surrey said.
“To be six down after around 30 overs is probably where it all went wrong.”
Surrey says Rovers bowled well.
“For me, it wasn’t about getting the 122, it was more about getting at least 180-200, if you bat your 75 overs out, you get that easy,” he said.
“We just need to bat for longer periods, be prepared to be patient and find a way through it.”
Beechworth is away to Benalla Bushrangers on Saturday.
Meantime, Rovers and City Colts will look to cement their spots in the top four when they meet in a crucial round six clash.
Delatite and Greta are fifth and sixth respectively, while the association’s only winless teams Ovens Valley United and Wangaratta Magpies also do battle.
