Brede Seccull won South Adelaide’s best and fairest in 2016, but has joined Sandringham for 2018.
The boom midfielder has nominated Wodonga as his second club, meaning he would be eligible to play for the Bulldogs during a VFL bye or if Sandringham wanted him to return from injury.
“Brede has had a few injuries, but when he’s up and running, and getting consistent football, he’s in the top echelon of SANFL midfielders,” South Adelaide football manager Warren Ploenges said.
“He’s very good inside and he’s a very good decision maker.
“His forte is not run and carry and spread, it’s more at the coalface and getting hold of it, getting first possession and using it to advantage.”
Wodonga defender Jackson Heagney-Steart was a team-mate of Seccull at South Adelaide.
“We’re going to get exposure and access to him for a couple of weeks, that’s really positive, not only for what he’ll bring on-field, but he will help our group, which is obviously pretty young,” first-year coach Zac Fulford said.
It’s been a brutal off-season for Fulford, with at least half of last season’s team walking out, including best and fairest Jarrod Hodgkin (Wodonga Raiders), 2016 Morris medallist Matt Seiter (Brock-Burrum) and interleague player Tom Johnson (Tallangatta).
However, Fulford is showing strong leadership by declaring he’s energised by the club’s youngsters.
“We’ve got a number of kids who are around that 18-19 years of age (Oliver Greenhill, Hamish Hallahan) that are ready to play senior O and M footy next year,” he said.
Dylan Beattie will stay and admits he’s disappointed with the exodus.
“Definitely mate … but it’s (only) football, it’s not the end of the world,” he said.
Wodonga has also signed Kiewa Sandy Creek’s Jacob Barber, along with Sapphire Coast best and fairest siblings Scott and Aaron Proctor.
