Swimming lessons to be held in rural areas in January

Swim and survive lessons are set to be held in rural areas in January.

Registrations are open for the lessons, which cost between $51 and $72.

The Berrigan, Finley and Tocumwal, Oakland and Urana pools will hold the lessons between January 8 and 18.

The NSW Office of Sport will host the lessons.

Statistics show 291 people drowned in Australian waterways in the 2016/17 financial year.

Drownings for children aged up to four increased by 32 per cent.
