Republico offers Cuban-inspired cocktails, drinks and bar snacks in the Amp Lane premises formerly occupied by Boom Boom.
Albury couple Ben and Mel Blomeley opened the bar, adding to their hospitality stable of Mexican eatery SoCal Cantina and Asian fusion kitchen and wine bar DinDins.
It is their third venture in the CBD in two years.
“We always wanted to do something like this; when this came up we had to jump at it,” Mr Blomeley said.
After a five-month renovation, Mr Blomeley said they gained a small bar licence, the second in town after Two Fingers.
“We liked the idea of Cuba; it’s a little time capsule of a country,” he said.
“We’re going laid-back and colourful.”
Republico seats 50 inside and 40 outside in the laneway.
Bar snacks comprise grilled Cubano sandwiches, chicken wings with Reggae Reggae Sauce and housemade seasoned crisps.
Republico will open Wednesday to Sunday over summer, 4pm until late.
