Howlong’s Travis Merritt scored a two-shot win in the Commercial Golf Resort Albury Inland Tournament.
He fired a par round of 106 shots for the 27 holes, to edge out Nathan Schneider.
“I tried to have a crack at it (the pro ranks), but wasn’t good enough to make a living out of it,” he said.
“It’s a massive difference now, once playing all the time, so you’ve got a golf game, so when you do it, once a week, I suppose you’re hitting and hoping.”
And the 41-year old admits he didn’t have too much hope after firing a two-over par 38 on a tough first nine holes.
“I thought I was gone, Schneider was three under after 10, so he had me by five,” he said.
But three under on the back nine pushed him into contention, before he finished with even par.
“Mate, I drove it really well, putted really poor,” he said.

Merritt admits putting cost him at the elite level.
