From just the second ball of Sydney Thunder’s innings, Gotch threw himself backwards at first slip for a contender for catch of the season.
“I think it is mate (my best catch), I don’t usually field in slips so it was just a shock to hold on to one, let alone a one-hander,” he said.
Gotch said he wasn’t expecting one so early.
“I wasn’t really paying attention, I didn’t think I was going to get one,” he said.
“Then, all of a sudden, it just came flying through and I put a hand out and it stuck.”
A Melbourne Stars’ team-mate maintains it was certainly the best he’s seen from Gotch.
“It was a ripper, one of the better catches I’ve seen, I reckon, behind him with one hand,” Adam Zampa said.
“And he told the boys that out there too, he was pretty happy with it.”
And so he should because that catch will be remembered as one of the finest the Lavington Sportsground has seen.
Despite the loss, Sydney Thunder was delighted with the strong crowd.
“It’s great to come out here at Albury, we get a lot of support from the people that come to the ground,” paceman Gurinder Sandhu said.
“It’s a great atmosphere and we love coming here.”
Both teams were raving about the family fun day at Wodonga’s Kelly Park on Monday afternoon, which attracted hundreds of youngsters.
