Under 18s, 17s and 14s players from the Border represented the International Football Group (IFG), going through the tournament undefeated on the way to claiming the Fiji Cup.
The under 17 girls team included former Boomers midfielder Christina Stefanou, Albury United duo Allanah Seary and Brea Quinlivan, Albury City’s Molly Goldsworthy and Albury Hotspurs’ Bella Godfrey.
Under 17’s coach Andrew Mason was very pleased with the Albury players.
“Having the five Albury girls this year was really good for the team,” Mason said.
“They’re all very good players individually, and the fact that the girls play together regularly and are great mates helped us both on and off the park.”
IFG’s under 14s girls were equally impressive on their way to the title.
Albury Hotspurs’ Lily Godfrey starred as goalkeeper, while Albury United’s Zarlie Goldsworthy was rock solid in defence.
The under 18s boys also won the grand final after an unbeaten tournament with the help of Albury United attacking midfielder Myles Carey.
Sides featuring AWFA players were the only Australian teams to go all the way, with the Fijians taking out the other seven age groups.
The Fiji Cup is an international youth competition that hosts more than 500 players, coaches and officials.
It is the only opportunity Fijian youth soccer teams have to play against overseas competition.
