Teigan Maree Llewelyn, 31, has been ordered to pay back the $2850 she took from The Coffee Club.
The Wodonga woman took the cash from a safe in a short span of time and told Albury Local Court on Thursday she’d had an issue with betting.
“I was a fool,” she told magistrate Tony Murray.
“Had a gambling problem.
“I’ve put myself in counselling.”
The employee first raised alarm bells on September 19 when the franchisee was counting cash.
He had been reconciling the accounts and noticed a $400 debit.
He contacted the store manager in the belief it was probably just an accounting error, and didn’t think much more of it.
When the accounts were being reconciled online a month later the boss noticed further debits.
Cash had been taken from a deposit bag in the safe on October 10, October 12, October 17, and October 19.
The deposit bag was checked, which showed there was a tear in the side with a further $500 missing.
The cash had been stolen in amounts between $350 and $700.
Security camera footage showing Llewelyn taking the money was handed over to police on October 27 and they attended the car park of the business two days later.
Llewelyn was arrested and admitted she had cut a hole in the bag and stuffed the notes in her handbag.
The 31-year-old lost her job, but has new work.
“Quite clearly you were in a position of trust at The Coffee Club,” Mr Murray said.
Llewelyn must perform 120 hours of community work and pay back the cash.
