Widdison will have almost a third of his stable of 25 in action during the seven-race program over the Border, most of which are early in their preparation.
Mr Fergus (race two), Canova, Cochranes Gap (race three), Lord Laurie (race four), Razzle Dazzle Rock (race five), Fish Bones Fry and Pretty Pine (race six) make up his complement of entries.
“I’ve got a big day, but at least it’s not far to go,” Widdison said
“I haven’t had this many at one meeting, but it’s not much different to trial days.
“I’ll probably take them over in two trips and spread them out so they’re not there all day.
“We’ve got a good team of staff and it will run pretty smoothly.”
Widdison admits Lord Laurie and Fish Bones Fry are his best chances.
“Lord Laurie is first up from a break, but he won first up last prep and most of his runs he was pretty close to winning without a lot luck,” he said.
“He’ll run well.
“Fish Bones Fry is a new acquisition to my stable.
“He ran second at Wagga on Monday and then transferred to me.
“I think he if reproduces the run he did at Wagga he’ll be pretty hard to beat.”
Widdison hopes the meeting can kick-start a big summer on the track.
“There’s a couple of horses like Lord Laurie that are first or second up, so they’re building towards something later on and have a fair preparation ahead,” he said.
“Pretty Pine is trying to win a maiden and there’s a couple of them coming up soon.
“It’s a great location where we are and we’ve got a two-and-a-half hour circle to get to a lot of places, whether it’s Victoria or NSW, but it’s hard to win anywhere.
“I find once horses have raced that way (clockwise in NSW) once, they let you know if they’re going to deal with it well or not.
“We give them a chance to go that way and places like Albury and Corowa are great to let us on for a gallop through the week.”
Widdison recently passed 12 months since returning to the Border to commence training and couldn’t be happier.
“It’s been fantastic with a couple of city winners and city placings,” he said.
“The winners, especially the last few months, have been really ticking over which has been good.”
Race one is at 1.31pm.
