Premier Building and Construction is the recommended tenderer for the building which will feature four changerooms, umpires’ rooms, medical rooms, kiosk and toilets for a contract price of $1.79 million which was the cheapest among four bidders for the project which were all based in Albury-Wodonga.
The overall budget has increased by around $2 million as a result of the soil dramas.
Albury Council has confirmed the amenities building design has not been altered as a result of the budget blowout coupled with the inability to secure NSW Government funding to date.
The council has made two unsuccessful applications to the NSW Club Grants funding pool.
But a spokesman for member for Albury Greg Aplin confirmed the council was presently in discussions with the government for a “significant amount” of funding for the Lavington project with the application to be finalised in coming days.
The nearby Urana Road Oval upgrade was a recipient of nearly $300,000 from NSW Club Grants in 2015.
The project was lauded by Mr Aplin as an example of what could be achieved when local and state government worked together.
Albury mayor Kevin Mack said: “We look forward to working with the NSW Government to achieve funding for stage three of the Lavington Sportsground redevelopment project”.
Premier Building and Construction also completed the Urana Road Oval redevelopment for council and also recently built a multi-purpose sporting complex at Tallangatta for the Towong Shire.
Detailed design plans for the Lavington Sportsground grandstand and extension works (stage three) are underway.
