With in-form skip Dawn Hayman again leading the way, Civic coasted home to leapfrog previous ladder leader Benalla going into the Christmas break.
It was a good win and we can go into the break in the lead which is nice
- Col Hendren
Hayman defeated Neil Hocking 41-18 while Thomas Webb accounted for Melissa Roberts 23-18.
The other two rinks were much closer with Max Scanlan edging out Ron Makin 26-25 and Col Hendren and Kevin Evans playing a 26-all draw.
Evans picked up a six on the second last end to hit the lead before Hendren grabbed a shot on the final end to split the honours.
“It was tight but Dawn’s rink really finished strongly again,” Hendren said.
“Her rink has only lost one game which was the first one of the season.
“It was a good win and we can go into the break in the lead which is nice.”
Benalla had the answers against Wodonga, winning 92-73 at Benalla.
Although the visitors won two ends with Josh Rudd edging out Matt Robertson 24-17 and Kylie Whitehead defeating Chris Cooney 22-19, it wasn’t enough to stop their opponents.
Shawn McMahon, with Kyle Pugh in fine touch at third, overpowered Peter McLarty 30-14 and Brian Hogg brought down Paul Davies 26-13.
The loss saw Wodonga fall to fourth spot on the ladder after dropping successive matches.
YMGCR won a thriller against Kiewa Valley 89-84.
James Lefevre defeated Jude Bartel 25-15, Ray Irvine outpointed Rob Bartel 25-18 and Garry Sanders ousted Dale Mastenbroek 23-21.
Kiewa Valley stayed in touch with Colin Coulston accounting for Rod Jones 30-16.
Wangaratta thumped Rutherglen 117-69.
Greg McDonald was the biggest winner of the day defeating Wally Bourne 38-17 while Trevor Selwood beat Bill Campbell 30-17 and Maurie Braden won 27-16 against Chris Langdon.
Ian Brimblecombe fought off Graeme Goudie 22-19.
