Reigning premiers Beechworth handed front-runners Yarrawonga-Mulwala their first loss of the season with a comprehensive display on Saturday.

Tight bowling restricted the Lakers to 5-138 from 40 overs before brothers Kayde and Brenton Surrey combined for a 98-run stand to set up a nine-wicket win for the Wanderers.

Jake Biddulph was the standout in a well-rounded Beechworth bowling attack with 3-23 from eight overs, while Lakers’ captain Matt Knight reached 34 runs.

Beechworth produced its best display with the bat all season with Kayde remaining unbeaten on 75, while his captain and brother, Brenton, added 40 to reach the total with six overs to spare.

Delatite upset Rovers-United Bruck, successfully chasing down the Hawks’ 9-154 to finish 7-166.

Greta (7-147) held on against Ovens Valley United (9-143), while Benalla Bushrangers (9-174) thrashed Wangaratta (84).
