A Mazda 3 smashed into the front of the building, facing the car park on the corner of the Birallee Village Shopping Centre, just after 10.30am on Monday.
A 63-year-old Wodonga woman was at the wheel and her adult son was also in the car.
The woman was helped out of the car by her son and a Coles employee and other centre workers came to their aid.
Wodonga highway patrol Leading Senior Constable Guy Tinsley said both were uninjured.
“She has been trying to park in the Birallee car park, and for a reason that we’re unsure of at this stage, she’s driven up the footpath and through the front door of the shop, through the plate glass window and knocked the front of the building down,” he said.
“She is very distressed and not quite sure what’s happened and she’s being looked after by family, and we’ll have a bit more of a chat to her later.
“She’s been tested for alcohol and drugs and they’re all negative.”
The DVD and entertainment store is usually shut until midday and manager Brooke Canute was making her way to work when it happened.
“I was going to drop in, grab the banking, come back and start work at 12pm,” she said.
“I got a call that the plaza owner called and said damage had been done to the store.
“I don’t think (the owners) will be very happy.”
Leading Senior Constable Tinsley said the woman has only had the car in her possession for two months.
“The store is being assessed at this stage, we’re waiting on Wodonga Council and a building inspector to come down and we’ll make some inquiries as to whether the building is safe before we remove the car,” he said.
