Cathy McGowan’s sister and former campaign coordinator, Ruth, has called for a new breed of politician to throw their hat in the ring, but denied the comments have anything to do with her sister’s political future.

Last week the independent MP refused to confirm or deny rumours she would not be contesting the next election, due in 2019.
On Monday, Cathy’s twitter account retweeted a blog post by Ruth.
“If you still believe in democracy and think you could do a better job than those currently in power, why not consider standing for public office?,” the blog states.
Ruth McGowan said there was no link between her blog and her sister’s career.
She said she would not be managing a candidate in the next federal election.
“It’s got nothing to do with Cathy… she doesn’t comment unless an election is called,” Ruth said.
“People are looking for something different to the major parties. You can see it through the rise of independents in the last ten years.”
