It’s not uncommon to see families represented over a number of years.
A prime example this year is the Mihai family from Coffs Harbour.
Leisa and Mark Mihai have been regulars at the Country Cup for the last seven years, supporting their sons Mitch and Lachlan.
While Mitch played his final Country Cup last year, Lachlan, 14, is set to carry on the family tradition a little longer.
Lachlan is a member of the NSW Kookaburras’ under 16s outfit.
Leisa said the Country Cup has become an annual holiday for the family and one they always enjoy.
“I’ve only got the two boys, but they’ve both come right through the age groups,” Leisa said.
“We always come down each year, so it’s a bit of a social experience for us as well.
“It’s a great area and we like to enjoy the food and the bars,” she laughed.
She admitted the bonds her sons have formed with their teammates and coaches has been the best thing about making the trip down south each year.
“They’re all from different areas and the mateship and friendships they make last forever,” Leisa said.
“My eldest son is still really good mates with all the under 18s kids.
“The coaches and managers are amazing for giving up their time and the talent of the coaching is great.
“We’ve won some gold medals and had a lot of fun.
“Obviously it’s nice to win, but for me it’s good that kids enjoy themselves and learn plenty along the way.”
The Mihai family also enjoys supporting the other Coffs Harbour players throughout the week.
“This year we’ve actually got 11 kids from Coffs Harbour involved,” Leisa said.
“We’ve got three under 16s boys, five under 14s girls, one under 16s girl, one under 18s girl and a referee.”
