Yesterday, Panthers coach Josh Cale said ex-Lavington and NRL star Joey Williams was in awe of the club’s recruit Damon Alley-Tovio, who signed with the Panthers yesterday and will line-up against Brothers.
Cale even likened Alley-Tovio to former NRL glamour boy Sonny Bill Williams.
“He trained last night and he’s big and strong and has some outstanding ball skills,” Cale said yesterday.
“I was speaking to Joey Williams about Alley-Tovio and he said he was one of the most naturally gifted and strongest players he’d ever seen, he’s similar to Sonny Bill in some ways.
“He will be a real boost for us.”
Alley-Tovio has had stints with NRL clubs Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney, Canberra and St George Illawarra.
The centre will give the Panthers a big lift after they were smashed by Junee 46-16 last weekend.
