The Bulldogs will resume their two-day clash with New City at Les Cheesley Oval on Saturday, before tackling Buckley Ridges at John Flower Oval in the preliminary final of the Regional Big Bash to earn the right to play at the MCG in the decider.
New City will resume at 6-23 after a late collapse last weekend, but Wodonga captain Jack Craig admits the match is far from done despite having a lead of 193 runs at his disposal.
“Not many games have finished like that for us,” Craig said,
“It just seemed like everything was going our way and everything fell into place.
“We took all our chances, it was perfect.
“You say to yourself we’ll go out and take them last four wickets real quick, but it’s never that easy.
“Especially with some of the bats New City still have to come in, it’s going to be hard and we’re going to have to perform at our best.”
Craig admits the side will then have to make the quick adjustment to the short format on Sunday, but feels they have prepared as best they can.
Coach Robbie Jackson and Tom Johnson will slot into the T20 outfit to replace Leo McGhee, Rob Foreman and Luke Jones, due to the limit of 11 players.
“We’ve been starting sessions with a normal two-day format and ending them with the T20 format, so we should be right, hopefully,” Craig said.
“We change the colour of the ball obviously and we get a little bit more attacking and set a field so we hit to our sweepers and so on.
“It’s something we’re going to be taking very seriously and hopefully we can get to the next level.”
Craig said the most difficult thing is not knowing any background on how Buckley Ridges play.
“It makes it very different to the normal Saturday competition,” he said.
“You sort of know who you’re coming up against and what they’re going to do, so you can train for that, but we can’t really train for this.”
The game starts at 12pm.
Meanwhile, Belvoir (7/230 dec) is in the box set for a big win against Wodonga Raiders (3-13).
Tallangatta (3-68) has some work ahead to pass St Pats (120).
North Albury requires 197 for victory against East Albury after the Crows were bowled out for 196 last weekend, while Lavington is on the hunt for outright points after dismissing Albury for 66 and building an 85-run lead by finishing 7-151.
