Margaret Saker, who moved to Benalla last year to be closer to family, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Recognition on this date is particularly fitting as Mrs Saker co-ordinated Narooma’s Australia Day ceremony for more than a decade.
Named Narooma’s citizen of the year in 2004, she was a member of Quota International for nearly 30 years and the Quota volunteer of the year in 2011.
The following year she received an Australia Day achievement award for District 35.
For 25 years Mrs Saker volunteered for Eurobodalla meals on wheels while she also gave significant service to groups including Narooma Red Cross and Illawarra Retirement Trust.
