Marnie Broz has been named Alpine’s citizen of the year for her “astonishing” commitment to volunteering in sport, schools and service clubs.

She has organised fundraising events; helped source funds for facility upgrades; and co-ordinated working bees, flood clean-ups and sporting tournaments as a committee member for Myrtleford Lions Club, McNamara Reserve, Myrtleford P-12 College, Myrtleford Lawn Tennis Club and Myrtleford Football Netball Club.
Cath Tucker was also named the local achiever for Bright as a quiet achiever who selflessly cares for and nurtures those who need her most.
She has been the Bright Senior Citizens Club secretary for the past 10 years and is also on-call to respond to anyone wanting to hire the hall.
The Kiewa Valley award was given to Margaret Brereton as a passionate supporter and advocate for music and the arts through the Mount Beauty Music Festival and poetry, music and dance workshops for young people.
Dylan Sgambelloni, Louise Saric and Tyra Hunt were named the young achievers for Bright, Myrtleford and Kiewa Valley.
Bogong Conquestathon was named community event of the year and Alpine Cycling Club the community organisation of the year.
Mayor Ron Janas congratulated the award winners.
“We rely on nominations from our community to help us recognise these unsung heroes, who often give so much of their time to help others, so thank you to everyone who nominated this year,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to see the diversity of individuals and groups who have been recognised.”
