A NSW man has been remanded in custody after a roadside fire south of Benalla on Australia Day.

Benalla police said the fire began about 8.30am at the Reef Hills rest area on the Hume Highway, next to Reef Hills State Park.
Senior Constable Bianca Whiteman said Country Fire Authority members put out the blaze, which measured about 30 metres by 30 metres.
Within an hour Seymour police arrested a man travelling on the highway.
Senior Constable Whiteman said the man, aged in his mid-30s and from the Blue Mountains, was charged with recklessly causing a bush fire and possessing a drug of dependence and remanded to attend Wangaratta Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
