Last season’s preliminary finalists are currently fifth, potentially saving their season with a six-run win over fellow contenders Tallangatta.
“Finals have really started this game (against Tallangatta),” Kirkwood said.
“And with how tight it is from third to seventh, you can go from being in a good position to a not so good position very quickly.”
The final two rounds are stacked with crucial games.
In the penultimate round, Wodonga (second) is home to East Albury (fourth), competition leaders Lavington host wooden spooners Wodonga Raiders, New City (sixth) travels to Tallangatta (third), while Belvoir (seventh) meets North (fifth).
In the final game, St Pat’s host Belvoir, North is home to Wodonga, East faces Tallangatta, while New City meets Lavington.
East and New City have the toughest run, against top three outfits.
