However, the road surface and roadbed is basically beyond repair for about two-thirds of the way from Wodonga to Melbourne and the whole road will have to be replaced in the next 20 years.
When this happens all that fencing will have to be removed and replaced. This is a waste of tens of millions of dollars.

Love and respect to all
The fifth Beechworth Music Festival is now over, the clean up is complete and the dust is just beginning to settle. While still a relatively small event in size, the festival has grown in so many directions and we feel it is holding true to its ideals of staying connected to the Beechworth and surrounding communities.
On every level we attempt to involve the local and regional community, from our lineup and newly developing Rock School, which always showcases local and regional talent, right through to our vendors, suppliers, services, businesses, of course our patrons and the all important community organisations who work so hard to support us, not just on the day but throughout the year. We want everyone to be able to share in the experience and we invite everyone to come along, let their hair down and get involved in our community at Beechy Music Fest.
Without all this Beechworth Music Festival would not exist and to all the people who have helped us in so many ways, the businesses and organisations that support us, we say a huge thanks. We couldn't do this without you and the support from the whole community. Much love and respect to all.
Rikki Raadsveld and Lex Fletcher, Beechworth
Take a look over the river
There is a big picture about the Corowa pool vision that is not being explored. The whole location should be part of a master plan and that includes the Ball Park Caravan Park, which needs to be invested in by the current operators or the private sector. The caravan park could be a year-round tourist park with its proximity to Rutherglen, the river and the centre of town .
A private sector investor investment in the park would need a lease that allows money to be put into it and create a modern, up-to-date tourist park. It would have a water play and quality amenities to attract caravan and motor home tourists all year.
Take a look along the Murray and this is what has happened with tired old parks and they are now busy all year, not just for a few weeks.
The location needs to seen for its total potential and that should mean relocating/merging the Civic bowls club with the golf club to make both strong viable clubs with increased membership at the golf club.
The bowls club site should be included in the tourism plan and water park tourist park plan and if possible sold to the tourism park sector. Funds from the sale could be used to locate the bowls club at the golf club .
The way Ball Park has been able to stay stuck in the ‘70s when tourists parks are a growth industry is a case of poor vision by past councils and government and that must change.
The site is ripe for investment if supported with a lease that allows investment. This would boost retail year-round. It is a sad fact that Corowa fails to see the tourism benefit of Rutherglen over the river .
