Instructors are delivering two-hour programs at Noreuil Park to familiarise students with dangerous open water environments like the Murray River.
Crucial knowledge, such as the emergency response sequence ‘DRSABCDS’ and various river rescue techniques, are being taught as part of the program, which forms part of LSV’s Open Water Learning Experience.
Live Saving Victoria programs co-ordinator Jess Acocks said it was important to give young people the potential to save a life.
“It’s very rewarding to be able to deliver programs in these regions that have the potential to save lives and re-engage schools who may not have access to swimming pool facilities,” she said.
“The program is a great opportunity to get students out of the classroom and help the become familiar with their local open water environment.”
