The Panthers will have five players of 178 centimetres (five foot 10) or above as they search desperately to end Yarrawonga’s premiership run.
“It probably would be (the tallest team at Lavington),” coach Tamara Mathews said.
“We’ve also picked up Heidi Fisher and she’s a reasonably tall mid-court player.”
Lavington has boasted the tallest defence in recent years with Rhiannon Dolahenty (184), Kate Yensch (183) and Sarah Meredith (180).
Young will join Alison Meani (179) and 2011 Toni Wilson medallist Sarah Senini in attack.
“That’s going to be hard for a lot of clubs to try and match up on, so hopefully that can bring an extra element into our attacking end that we haven’t had for a few years,” Mathews said.
Young will replace Skye Hiller (169), who ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in the gut-wrenching one-goal grand final loss to Yarrawonga.
The Pigeons had only a handful of tall players, including coach and attacking spearhead Bridget Cassar (180) and star defender Hannah Symes (183).
“Even though we’ve got the height, we’ve also been able to retain plenty of speed and athleticism,” Mathews said.
Young played in Wodonga’s 2015 premiership against Yarrawonga, before starring in Tallangatta’s flag last year in Tallangatta and District.
“It just seemed like a really good club and I just wanted to return to the O and M.”
