Firefighters received a call at 6am to attend an unknown fire and arrived in a paddock off Gerogery Road, at the Travelling Stock Reserve, to discover the car alight.
RFS Southern Border Superintendent Patrick Westwood said Table Top and Lavington brigades attended the scene and quickly had the blaze under control, spending about an hour at the scene.
“There were no occupants in the car,” he said.
“It appears as if the car was abandoned.
“It had been driven through a fence into a paddock.”
He said the fire was stopped before it could spread any further into grassland.
The Eastern Riverina region, which includes the Albury council area, had a “high” danger rating on Wednesday.
Police were called to investigate.
