The five-piece outfit is touring NSW with its unique blend of Norse mythology and heavy metal music.
Regaling audiences with tales of warfare, the Norse gods and the ways of the pagans, Stone Sovereign are a little different from your standard metal act.
They incorporate costumes and put on a highly theatrical performance to help fully immerse the audience into their story telling.
The band started out as hard-rocking four-piece Tomes of Ruin in 2013.
They built a solid reputation across Central NSW alongside acts such as Trollgasm, Stormtide, Wounded Pig and Infested Entrails and released their debut EP, Titan's Fist, a year later.
Following a line-up change the band rebranded as Stone Sovereign in 2016 and released two tracks online-only for download.
Guitarist Greg Perry describes the band as “taking influences from the European melodic-death and folk metal genres, and we blend them with pure fantasy. Warriors, Vikings, crumbling empires and lost gods.”
From Albury the band head to Wagga to play at the “Stromcrow metal gathering” before taking a couple of weeks break and heading to Questfest in Canberra.
“We can't wait to come to Albury. This is our first adventure to the region and we're always excited to play new venues and meet some great people.” Perry says.
Wodonga’s Scott Martin, of BarBrawl records, has taken on the duty of organizing the southern leg of the tour which will see Albury progressive death metal band, Dread The Winter and Border solo act Aidan Tatchell, who performs as Cuck Lord, share the Albion Hotel stage.
“The BarBrawl team and I are working hard in collaboration with local artists, venues and other promoters to help breath life into the local punk, metal and alternative scene,” Martin says. “We hope to see as many people as possible out at this show.”
On February 24 Melbourne band Frankenbok headline another metal gig, at the Ettamogah Pub.
