Standing for perseverance, empathy, acceptance, collaboration and effort, year five and six students at Albury North have finished three weeks of mediation training to help resolve recess disputes.
Assistant principal Annette Hutchison said the PEACE program was teaching students of all ages important life skills.
“The mediators have to employ critical thinking skills – their role isn’t to resolve the problem, but to help other students solve it themselves so they all leave the situation feeling better off,” she said.
“We’ve actually found there’s been a really noticeable reduction in the number of playground incidents this year.”
