New City bounces back to batting form with half-centuries to its imports

New City has bounced back to form with its two English imports starring against Tallangatta.

First-class players Saif Zaib (77) and Sam Grant (58) pushed the visitors to 260.

Paceman Sam Stephens took 4-73, while leg-spinner Sahib Malhotra claimed 3-64.

New City had lost its first two two-day games and will probably need to win to stay in the top six.

Meanwhile, Lavington is set to seal the minor premiership.

The Panthers ripped through Wodonga Raiders for just 98, taking the last five wickets for nine runs.

Daryl Tuffey captured 4-16, with the home team 1-152.

That result could end Wodonga’s claims on top spot, although it should hammer East Albury.

The Crows made only 148.

Byron Hales continued his superb season with 5-34 from 15 overs.

And in the only game with no bearing on finals, Albury scored 152, with St Patrick’s crawling to 1-4 from 11 overs, with nine maidens.
