Out of nearly 110 children who auditioned on the weekend, a cast of about 50 will be announced soon, leaving many young actors disappointed.
But three members of the production team have also started a new venture that offers youngsters the chance to work on their musical theatre skills.
Allyssa Constable, Lauren Schmutter and Caitlin Clarke, who between them have more than 50 years’ theatre experience, have started Border Show Business Academy, which combines singing, dancing and acting.
“It gives the kids another avenue and it helps them develop for the next opportunity,” Constable said.
The academy also aims to build confidence and resilience in a safe environment.
“We need to give them the tools to be able to know where they're sitting and be able to get back to that place where they want to strive for greatness again,” she said.
