The dual Des Kennedy Medallist, who was first diagnosed with a murmur eight years ago, will meet with a cardiologist next week to discuss his options.

“A valve in there is leaking and regurgitating blood,” Morey, 26, said.

“It just works a little harder which is starting to make my heart enlarge in one spot.

“I’ve got to keep an eye on that.

“I’ll need open heart surgery at some stage so I’ll have a CT scan next week and then see a cardiologist who will hopefully give me a time frame.”

Morey’s surgery will involve inserting a mechanical or tissue valve with the two-time Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock premiership player saying the operation could be in “weeks, months or even a year or two”.

He admitted it was unlikely he would play football again.

“At the minute it’s not looking good,” he said.

“I’m pretty doubtful.

“I’ve got two little ones and a family to think about so I’ll just work on getting my health right.

“At the minute I’ve retired, but I’ve got my fingers crossed I guess.”

Morey struggles to train due to breathing and dizziness difficulties with the problem worsening in recent months.

“The high intensity stuff takes it out of me,” he said.

“I can’t run like I used to.

“I’ve only really had one episode out on the ground which was a few years ago when I had to come off.

“It was racing away a bit on me.”

Morey was best afield in Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock’s grand final victories over Jindera and Holbrook in 2016 and 2013.

He kicked six and eight goals in the wins.

Morey, who booted 29 majors for North Albury in 2015, spent last year at Beechworth before deciding to return to Brock-Burrum over the off-season.
