This year’s participants in Stars of the Border Dance for Cancer officially launched the fundraising project at Noreuil Park, a social occasion before the eight-week rehearsal period starts.
The 13 stars and their dance teachers will perform their newly-learned routines at the gala night on May 4. Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, a week later than originally planned.
Four judges, dancers Anita Valta and Debbie Ravida, theatre’s Jeremy Zuber and last year’s winner Olivia Aughton, will assess the couples, who also raise money for Cancer Council NSW.
Mrs Valta encouraged the stars to put aside their nerves, if possible, as this would help both their performance and their own enjoyment.
“I think it’s mostly about entertainment, having fun and getting out there and having a go,” she said.
“The winning couple is always the one that is most entertaining, does show some technique and it’s just very enjoyable and uplifting to watch.”
Bronwyn Robertson and Kevin Poulton will be comperes for the fifth annual Stars of the Border Dance for Cancer.
Mrs Valta has been a judge each year and said the level of dancing on display had always been good, given the short rehearsal period.
“As it has progressed, there’s been a higher standard across the board, not just with a few,” she said.
“I think they’re all wanting to do a little bit better each year and come up with something a little bit exciting for the audience to watch.”
