Beechworth sits fourth on the ladder with two rounds remaining and will play finals, but have certainly had an interrupted season.
The Wanderers’ round five victory against Rovers United-Bruck on November 11 and 18 was the last time they played the longer form.
A washout during the second week of the following round against Benalla Bushrangers was followed by three one-day clashes before Christmas and early January.
Extreme heat in week one forced all round 10 fixtures to become limited overs matches, where Beechworth fell to City Colts, and a two-week bye came last round.
The Wanderers return to action today against Wangaratta in the two-day form and finish the home and away season against Ovens Valley United.
Beechworth captain Brenton Surrey admits it’s been a frustrating campaign.
“We’ve hardly played any cricket, so for us it’s about having a good hit and a good bowl and trying to get into some rhythm,” Surrey said.
“Hopefully we can go into the finals with a couple of wins.”
Yarrawonga-Mulwala is out to defend top spot with victory against Greta after its outright triumph last weekend.
Rovers United-Bruck sits second, but can’t afford to slip-up away to Benalla Bushrangers.
City Colts will be waiting to pounce on any mistakes from the leaders with victory against Ovens Valley United.
Greta has the bye.
