The latest Hopper recruit will continue to live in the Barossa Valley and play on a part-time basis when free of work commitments.
He played for Tanundra last season and took out the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association’s Schluter Medal in 2016.
Schmidt has represented South Australia Country against Western Australia.
Chris Schmidt’s signing at Bunton Park has reignited the Hoppers with the club recruiting more players than any other in the competition.
Chris will travel from Sydney to play each weekend.
Meanwhile, North Albury’s Jayden Beaumont has joined Holbrook.
Beaumont is coming off his best season with the Hoppers and will join a host of Ovens and Murray players heading to the Hume league.
Wodonga Raiders’ Brock Knights, Lavington’s Matt Sharp and Sam Harris and Berrigan’s Jake Way have also signed with the club.
