Lavington man Casey John Sims appeared contrite when he appeared for sentencing.
But during his violent outburst he repeatedly hurled abuse at the woman.
Sims told magistrate Rodney Brender in Albury Local Court this week that he had begun “talking through” his issues with his wife.
Mr Brender drew attention to the fact that Sims inflicted violence in pushing the victim in the presence of their children. “Domestic violence is completely unacceptable. The offending is pretty serious on the agreed facts,” he said.
Sims pleaded guilty to stalk or intimidate with intention to create fear and to two domestic violence-related counts of common assault.
Mr Brender pointed to a pre-sentence report done on Sims that showed he had a good work history, no history of violence and had the ongoing support of his wife.
The couple had been in a relationship for nine years, had three children and got married in November. The incident that led to Sims being charged took place just a few weeks later on December 8 when the couple got into an argument about 7pm.
At one point Sims picked up her phone and threw it at a wall, though nothing was damaged. Police said the argument continued until Sims pushed the victim with both hands into her chest, causing her to stumble backwards.
A similar assault took place and at one point the woman decided to stay in a bedroom with her children. She came out to talk, but he said “f … you c … ” then chased her back into the bedroom with the scissors in his hand.
Sims was placed on a two-year bond and convicted and fined $446.
