The umpires also spoke to the clubs, although that’s not necessarily unusual as some officials routinely talk pre-match to clubs.
“We got told (by CAW) if anything personal got brought up during the game, that player could cop a two-week suspension,” North president and first-grade player Chris Barrott said.
Long-time North star David Farrell moved to Belvoir mid-season and he admitted prior to the match, he didn’t leave on best terms with everyone.
But Barrott said “we’re not just talking David Farrell”.
“There were a few people at Belvoir, very personal, on a lot of different levels in the week leading up to the game,” he said.
“I can’t really go into a lot of it because a lot of it’s going further.
“They tried to make the game personal on many levels and I was impressed with our boys and how they handled themselves and let our cricket do the talking.”
Belvoir’s stand-in captain Zac Simmonds says the umpires handled the game well.
“There’s a bit going on and both sides know what it is,” he said.
“The umpires spoke before the game about staying within the rules of cricket and, from my standpoint, I think both sides were pretty good.
“I think it’s just a lot of personalities that clash.
“He (Barrott) needs to make sure he’s not standing in a glasshouse when he starts throwing a few stones.”
The teams could still meet in finals.
