Beechworth’s Eloise McCormick and Wombats’ Sadie Sawyer discussed the plight of their club’s presence in the top grade during the off-season, which led to discussions between players, coaches and presidents to determine the final outcome.
Wombats’ president Andrew McMillan said the arrangement will allow Wombats to sustain its division one team and give Beechworth the chance to develop its younger players for a team of its own in the future.
“As we look to redress the decline in player numbers, innovative and lateral approaches like this are bringing clubs together,” he said.
“Players and clubs are keen to get the season under way, but we still need coaches, managers and players to register their interest.”
The association’s club registration day will be held at Albury Hockey Centre from 10am to 12pm on Sunday.
