Henty jumped to second with an impressive 75-37 victory away to Commercial on Saturday.
The Swampies claimed nine points thanks to big wins from Kim Maher and Glenn Harrison, while Roger Dalitz got a rink victory for Commercial against Peter Forck, 19-17.
Maher got past Darryl Coventry, 23-6, while Harrison’s outfit outclassed Bernie Mahlo, 25-12.
Lavington opened up some breathing space from Culcairn in fourth position with a comprehensive 70-47 triumph against Howlong.
Adrian Pantling had a 21-9 win against Phil Slater, Vic Moore’s men defeated Paul Baensch, 24-14, while Darren Moore’s thrilling 25-24 result against John Dawson ensured the Panthers captured all 10 points.
North Albury continued its unbeaten run with a hard-fought 63-57 salute at Culcairn.
Norm Honey’s 25-12 victory against recently-crowned district pairs champion Terry Hensel set up the victory for the Hoppers.
Allen Ross drew with Dave Trebley, 18-18, while Jim Lee claimed a rink for the Lions with a 27-20 triumph against Stephen Broad.
The grade three ladder after round eight is: North Albury 72 (+124), Henty 48 (+25), Howlong 47 (+7), Lavington 41 (+2), Culcairn 25.5 (-37), Commercial 6.5 (-121).
Henty moved to second in grade four with a 66-53 win against Holbrook, while North Albury’s hopes were dashed by a 75-58 loss to leaders Commercial.
Lavington moved to the top of grade five with a 60-37 victory over Walla, Commercial stayed in the top-four with a thrilling 65-63 win at home to North Albury, Oaklands fell to Culcairn, 72-55, while Howlong is half a point from a finals spot after beating Rand, 76-22.
In grade six, Holbrook took down leaders Commercial, 67-54, North Albury Green defeated Henty, 73-41, Howlong grabbed a win against Lavington, 60-47, while North Albury Yellow was upset by Walla, 71-53.
