Muller clocked two hours, 47 minutes and 36 seconds for the 42.2-kilometre event.
“That equates to three minutes and 58 seconds for every kilometre,” assistant race director Justin Scholz said.
“Kevin has now contested more than 100 marathons and ultramarathons.
“In fact, I think he’s done more ultramarathons than marathons.”
Tasmania’s Bonnie Davies claimed the women’s event in three hours, 28 minutes and 24 seconds.
Davies travelled from the Apple Isle specifically for the race.
The marathon is one of five events, with Jai Edmonds claiming the men’s half marathon in just under one hour and 15 minutes, while Mulwala’s Stacey Barrot snared the women’s in just under one hour and 22 minutes.
Echuca’s Brady Threlfall proved too strong in the 10k race, posting 34 minutes and 29 seconds.
He ran a marathon in Japan recently, clocking a blistering two hours and 21 minutes.
Wangaratta product Katherine Parker won the women’s 10k.
Now in its eighth year, the event continues to prove enormously successful with around 1600 competitors.
“We’re delighted with the quality and quantity of people here, especially when you consider the AFL match was in Wangaratta the previous evening and there were a couple of other (running) events around the place,” Scholz said, who runs the event with his wife Sharon.
