City’s men claimed the Andronicos Cup for the first time since 2005 with a 2-0 win against Melrose at Jelbart Park on Sunday, while the women made it four wins from four attempts in the Iannotta Cup with a 2-0 triumph over Wangaratta.
Men’s coach Matt Maw saw plenty of positives.
“The main thing today was to get through it unscathed and I think apart from some sore bodies and tired legs, everyone has come through well,” Maw said.
“We had one disappointing game for the day against Twin City, but every other game was 2-0 which was good.
“Hamish Keatings performed really well and Thorne Maw as well.
“Caleb Styles is another one, he seems like he’s been around forever, but he’s still only 18.
“They’re winners too, they all won a reserves grand final last year and are keen to play seniors this year.
“I think we’re still a little bit away from the likes of Wang and Myrt, but we’ll be aiming for top-four.
“It gives me a lot to think about before round one.”
City’s David Samiec was named the inaugural winner of the Peter Galanakis Man of the Match Award for a standout display in the final.
Galanakis, a stalwart of the club, passed away earlier this year, with his brother, George, on hand to present the award.
“It’s a big honour for us,” George said.
“Peter founded the club with a few other Greeks in the town and my dad was the very first president.
“My son (Stefan) plays at Diamonds, but I’ve still got a soft spot for Albury City.”
City women’s coach Robert Brown was proud of the effort of his side.
“There’s a lot of young girls that have never player seniors before, so it was a really good opportunity and I’m really pleased for the girls,” Brown said.
“Bridget McDiarmid was absolutely brilliant, she dominated the park, Sally Lynch was a rock in defence all day and Karina Collins was fantastic in goals.”
