In 2008 headbands littered the crowd, as people flocked away from the traditional fascinators and hats, while trackside Luvuleo stormed to Albury Gold Cup glory before the record crowd of 20,117.
Sydney trainer Graeme Rogerson presented leading jockey Peter Robl with his first triumph in the $125,000 Albury Gold Cup when up-and-comer Luvuleo blitzed his rivals

Robl, originally from Benalla, had won a record-equalling six southern districts jockey’s premierships in the previous seven years and established himself in the tough school of Sydney riding ranks in the past eight months.
But until Luvuleo sprinted clear in the last 400m, Robl had never won an Albury Cup.
