Wodonga Council shelved the development last year after it struggled to attract federal and state government funding.

But a proposal to go before councillors at Monday night’s meeting has been created to have another shot.

Two ovals and two courts for football, cricket and netball - worth $14,498,709 - remain the top priority for Baranduda Fields.

The council employed Albury-based planning and engineering company Spiire to redo the master plan.

It promoted a three-pitch soccer facility to an earlier priority and included gymnastics in plans for an indoor facility.

Tennis, cycling, hockey and rugby league facilities also made the list.

A major difference of this plan was a renewed focus on broader community uses for the sporting facilities – including playspaces and water education – as referenced in a new vision statement.

“Baranduda Fields will be a precinct of major regional significance. It will be a destination offering unique and inclusive spaces for a variety of social interactions and recreation activities,” the draft plan stated.

The catch is the individual projects will still need significant funding from federal and state governments or sporting bodies to go ahead.

The Victorian government told Wodonga Council last year Baranduda Fields was rejected for funding because it “did not align with the Regional Infrastructure Fund's guidelines.”

If the updated grand proposal gets the backing of councillors on Monday, the first step will be to release the draft for public consultation.                        

“The updated master plan takes into account latest sport demand and needs for the future Wodonga population along with expanding the master plan to identify site opportunities for Baranduda Fields to become a multipurpose community space for future Wodonga residents,” the report to councillors stated.
