The inaugural Black Dog Ride Albury-Wodonga left Lincoln Causeway at 10am as part of the ongoing journey to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention.

Co-ordinator Mark Haley said a committee had been working since November to organise the first Border staging of the national event, which began in 2010.

“It’s about bringing people together and really starting a conversation around mental health, depression and suicide and encouraging people to ask for help if they need it,” he said.

The Corryong Lions Club hosted the participants after the two-hour ride.

“Everyone sat around and had a coffee and a sausage and shared, which was what it was all about,” Mr Haley said.

Although not primarily a fundraiser, the event also collected about $5000 for Black Dog Ride organisations.
