A much younger squad is set to take to the field this season, guided by a few veterans.
The Spitfires took on Old Canberrans in a pre-season game at Albury on Saturday, and despite going down 4-0, co-coach Tony Donnelly said he was pleased with the way some of the younger players had stepped up.
“Old Canberrans will be the yardstick this season, they were the best team in last year’s comp,” he said.
“We have to give the young guys some run because we just don’t have the depth, but they held their own.
Noah Erdeljac, Jeremy Maggs, Josh Pritchard and Joe Forster all stood out.
The women’s side also played three games on Saturday, with coach Jerry Sutherland saying the team was on the right track.
“We’ll definitely be competitive, we’ve got a good defence to work with,” he said.
