For the second year in a row, Collingwood's season ended before the halfway point with losses in their first three games, but Siekman believes strong performances in the back half of the campaign could be enough to ensure he hangs around in 2019.
"That's something the club needs to make a decision on," he said after the Magpies' come-from-behind win against Adelaide on Sunday.
"The response ... the playing group have shown through the last four weeks, to win against quality opposition .
"We didn't just play against the bottom sides - and smash them in the end on the scoreboard - hopefully it holds us in good stead moving forward."
Siekman comes out of contract in May but isn't sure when the club will make a decision on his future.
If he does return as coach for another year, Siekman wants to keep as many of his players as possible and is scared by the prospect of losing his stars to Geelong and/or North Melbourne who are entering the AFLW next year.
"Unfortunately, where this competition is at at the moment, the existing clubs get no say in who gets poached to these two teams," he said.
"Our four best players could leave this club and it's not fair on the existing clubs.
"In a competition that's so even, you could have your heart broken straight down the middle."
