Albury Racing Club chief executive Mick Wighton said the club had also paid for police to attend, “just to ensure the day runs well”.
Last November’s Wodonga Gold Cup was marred by violence and while Mr Wighton didn’t want to compare the events, he said there were always isolated incidents.
“We try to have a high police and security presence to ensure responsible service of alcohol and to make sure people have a good time,” he said.
“Were just wanted to create an environment where people have a good time.”
Mayor Kevin Mack said the Nightrider, which will depart from outside Public House in Dean Street from 10pm, would help people get home safely.
“It’s to get people out of the CBD and home safely,” he said.
Sergeant Matt Zemaitis said drivers needed a Plan B if drinking.
“If you are intending on driving to the event, please watch what you drink,” he said.
“If you’re picking up people from the event, it’s the driver’s responsibility to ensure everyone has their seatbelts on.
“If you have passengers who are unrestrained, the driver is just as liable.”
