The Albury and Deniliquin local area commands are merging together in changes that will come into force on Sunday.
The changes are part of the NSW Police Chief Commissioner’s re-engineering program, with the new Murray River Police District to cover from Albury to Holbrook and stretch as far as Tooleybuc in the west.
Superintendent Evan Quarmby said each station would have an officer in charge and members of the public wouldn’t notice any changes on the ground.
“There can be a reassurance that the professional policing presence that they’ve experienced to date won’t be affected by this,” he said.
“Police will continue to do the best we can to serve the needs of our communities.”
