The Lavington Oval performance on March 9 will start the regional tour which will be held in only eight locations in NSW and Queensland.
Heading the tour will be 17 times X Games medallist and world No 1 FMX rider Travis Pastrana, from the US, on his first trip to regional Australia.
Managing director of promoters Global Action Sports Michael Porra described Pastrana as “the greatest action sports star on the planet and it’s a massive coup to have him perform live in Albury for this one and only time”.
Joining Pastrana will be the entire Nitro Circus crew from the successful MTV television series, including overseas riders Jolene Van Vugt, Erik Roner, Jim De Champ, Special Gregg and Dusty Wygle.
The Australian line-up includes 2009 FMX X Games gold medallist Blake “Bilko” Williams and the only rider performing FMX double back flips, Cam Sinclair.
Some of the best FMX riders will also feature including Australian X Games medallist Andy Buckworth, who is one of only two riders in the world to perform the death-defying double front flip.
Fans can expect to see kids’ trikes, snow skis, tandem bikes and razor scooters launched off the Gigant-A-Ramp, as well as extreme wheelchair athlete Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham and the 10-rider Nitro backflip combination train.
The show will take place midweek and be one of the first events held under the recently completed lighting upgrade at the Lavington Oval, which is also tipped to host its first AFL practice match since 2006 next March.
“We are one of only eight shows on the tour and we are the first,” Albury Council events team leader Ros Walls said.
“They have just done a capital city tour and had an amazing response.
“They will do a tour of New Zealand before kicking off the regional tour of Australia.
“It is a pretty crazy show and they are pulling fairly massive crowds.
“The closest show to us will be Canberra so I would expect we will get a very good crowd to the show here.”
The council approved a venue hire agreement with Nitro Circus Live this month and confirmation of the show follows the success of the recent Powderfinger concert at the Albury Sportsground.
“I think it will appeal to the market it caters to,” Ms Walls said.
“It’s a unique audience and if their capital city crowds are anything to go by we should do really, really well.
“The ground will lend itself well to the show.
“We’ve done the Crusty Demons there in the past and it will work really well under the lights.”
Tickets are on sale from Sunday through Ticketek. Tour updates and details are available at nitrocircuslive.com.
