In a possible omen, defender Nick Meredith pushed forward to land the first after 60 seconds and then Lachie Taylor-Nugent nabbed a defender and kicked truly from a tight angle.
Mark Whiley was getting the ball at will and he combined with ruckman Matt Dussin to set up teenage debutant Joe Richards.
A strong Whiley tackle forced a turnover and, from there, Brayden O’Hara’s superb 40m kick found Brandon Symes.
Jydon Neagle then landed the fifth goal after a frenetic nine minutes.
“We definitely started off really well in the first quarter and the boys turned it on, so it was a really good win,” O’Hara said.
After some lean years, the O and M is within sight now of the State’s top billing, but it can expect a much tougher game in next year’s three v four playoff, with the winner vying for number one in 2020.
